PXM for Linux

A home for your applications.

PXM for Linux manages websites, PHP, Node.js, optional Bun and databases with a CLI and a private browser dashboard. It is built for Ubuntu servers and development computers, with signed runtime downloads and explicit control over updates.

Use Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS or 26.04 LTS on ARM64 or x86_64. The target computer does not need Docker, Go, Homebrew or a compiler. Use the CLI directly, or open the browser dashboard locally or through an SSH tunnel. The native Mac app and the earlier Omarchy CLI have different workflows and commands. PXM Pro uses the same product license across Mac and Linux.

Install PXM

Paste this into your terminal. PXM selects the correct build for your computer.

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://pxm.sh/install.sh | bash

Follow the one-time shell or account instruction printed by the installer, then run:

Terminal
pxm setup

Choose your PHP and Node.js versions, optional Bun and databases, and boot startup. Setup starts only when you run it.

Start here

  1. Download and verify PXM, then install it as the unprivileged account that will own your applications.
  2. Set up a website with PHP-FPM, Node.js, static files or a loopback reverse proxy.
  3. Manage databases, including startup, credentials, backups, recovery and updates.
  4. Import existing databases into a verified copy, then switch ports during a planned cutover.
  5. Open the dashboard to inspect and manage the same workspace in your browser.
  6. Schedule encrypted backups to your S3-compatible storage, including Cloudflare R2.
  7. Read the release verification for the supported platform matrix and practical limits.

What is included

PHP, Node.js, optional Bun, websites and HTTPS are free. New managed database, cache, search, mail and object-storage services, imported services and engine updates require PXM Pro. Existing services remain startable, backed up and recoverable without license or download access. No license is required to restore an authenticated PXM portable backup.

PHP includes CLI and FPM, intl, sodium, PDO MySQL/PostgreSQL/SQLite, curl, GD, mbstring, XML, zip and OPcache. The Linux catalog provides stable PHP 8.2 through 8.5 and an explicit PHP 8.6 preview, Node.js 24 LTS and 26 Current, Caddy routing and 12 managed service families. Stable PHP packages include compatible Xdebug and SPX modules. Linux and Mac catalogs are independent. See runtimes and managed services for versions, compatibility and update behavior.

Build, inspect and share

Create Laravel, WordPress or phpMyAdmin sites, park local project folders, and share a running site through Cloudflare. Run Composer, project workers and MCP through developer tools. Use application diagnostics for opt-in PHP capture, debugging, coverage and local development mail.

Production sites support explicit application health checks before deployment and ongoing checks through the daemon. Encrypted backup schedules verify the uploaded copy before applying retention. These features report their state in both CLI output and the dashboard.

Choose PHP for a project

Terminal
pxm php install 8.5
pxm php use 8.5
pxm php -v
cd /home/deploy/my-app
pxm php isolate 8.5
pxm php -v

A project pin lives in .php-version. The global selection applies when the current project has no pin. Install a published update with pxm php install 8.5. A running website keeps its exact authenticated runtime until an explicit site update or a confirmed pxm update plan stages and checks its replacement. The website guide covers Node selection and deployment too.

A workspace with clear ownership

Run PXM as a dedicated, unprivileged Unix account. Its default private data root is ~/.local/share/pxm-server. Database listeners bind to localhost. Web routing requests administrator access only for its systemd setup and the capability to bind ports 80 and 443; application workers run unprivileged.

PXM does not take over another manager's data directory or stop unrelated processes. pxm legacy inspect can read a summary of the earlier Omarchy configuration. pxm service detect finds reachable local database listeners. Import and cutover are deliberate operations described in the import guide.

Plan for production

Use standard HTTPS CA certificates, executable private storage and systemd. Runtime packages target Linux 5.15 and glibc 2.35 or later on the qualified Ubuntu releases. Alpine/musl, other distributions, 32-bit systems and every CPU model are outside the tested scope.

Backups, restores and database engine updates pause the selected service. Keep recovery exports on separate private storage and rehearse restoration. Public DNS, firewall rules, application deployment, backup destinations and capacity planning remain yours to configure. PXM is a single-account manager, not a sandbox for mutually untrusted applications.
